For most of the world, 2020 was something of a bust. With lockdowns, recessions, and countless other problems, most people are eager to write the year off and move on to something better. One of the industries that has seen an incredible boom is the world of gaming, specifically gaming for consoles and mobile. More and more mobile games have been hitting the market in recent months, giving consumers a wider choice than ever in terms of what they have to play.
For both Android and iOS, games have gone from simplistic to fully realised, 3D environments that offer storylines and modern game play. These are the top upcoming games that are worth keeping an eye on as we move into a new year.
League Of Legends: Wild Rift
Riot Games’ League of Legends is the most played game in the world, with over one billion active monthly players. They have decided to expand their empire by moving into the mobile world, and their latest offering, Wild Rift, looks to be something special. It will feature the same 5v5 MOBA gameplay as the original PC version, along with the added bonus of modern graphics and all the same functionality, expect streamlined for a more mobile experience.
The Witcher: Monster Slayer
As one of the most successful gaming franchises of all time, it makes sense that a Witcher game would eventually come to the smartphone world, and Monster Slayer is just that. The game will focus on a Witcher that was around hundreds of years prior to the arrival of fan favourite Geralt, where players will be able to go around the real-world killing monsters; working off of the same concept as Pokémon Go. The visuals so far look stunning, and the gameplay promises to change the way we use our smartphones.
Dauntless
Dauntless is currently one of the fastest growing games on all platforms expect mobile, but the developers of the title have decided to change that by bringing it to everyone’s smartphones. The game revolves around a player hunting down monsters known as behemoths, where players are able to team up with others to hunt down even bigger foes. It’s become a favourite in recent months, and the mobile version looks to make a big splash in the gaming world.
Plants vs. Zombies 3
While it’s been a good number of years since the first Plants vs. Zombies games, it was one of the world’s favourite pastimes, enough to spawn a franchise of its own. And fans will be delighted to learn that the developers will be bringing out a third generation of the beloved game, this time with more features, more zombies, and more ways to play. While we have no received an official launch date, we can expect that will come out on mobile within the next year or so; it will be free to download and play, and that it will include micro-transactions, although more details will be confirmed in coming months.
